In December, the US government granted a patent for a “hybrid” house called the “beautiful House” that would be capable of being constructed by anyone with a basic knowledge of construction.
“This is a house with a roof, but with a wall,” said one of the patent’s inventors, Joshua Miller, a designer with the company, A.S. Miller and Associates.
“A roof, wall, and ceiling are the main components, but it can have any number of components.”
The “hybrids” house is a “house built with modularity”, according to the patent.
“Modularity is the idea that a house can be made up of parts that are modular and that are all built in a single piece, in which case the house can become a new building,” said Miller.
“For example, a garage can be split into a living space, a kitchen and an office space, and the kitchen can be built as an office.”
While the “hybrids” house may not be a “building” in the traditional sense, it is still a “living” house, said Miller, who also has a small startup called the A.T.O. Design Lab.
The company is currently working on a project that could make modularity possible in homes of all sizes, from a one-bedroom flat to a six-bedroom home.
“The first one was just a garage and it was a garage,” Miller said.
“But the first one that we designed was a living room, a living kitchen, and a living bathroom.
That’s what modularity is.”
The idea behind modularity, Miller said, is that the house could be built in any number the number of modules it can fit, and that the modules would be modular and all be built together.
“If you had this house, and you had to build it up in three different ways, the modularity of it would make it easier for you to understand how you’re going to build that,” he said.
The company is still working on the concept, and it may take a couple of years before modularity becomes standard, but Miller said that it could be possible to build the houses with modules that are already existing.
He said modularity could be a useful technology in homes as far as making it easier to construct, as well as more affordable.
“You don’t have to buy new parts,” he added.
“There are lots of different materials, lots of materials that have been around for a long time.”
The concept is also attractive to some of the “big houses” in California, where some developers are now planning to build modular homes for homes of up to 300 square metres.
“They’ll just do the work, and they’ll get a modular system, and then they can just go home and do the things that they like,” said Scott Besser, the CEO of the San Diego Housing Authority, which recently approved a new modular housing scheme.
“It’ll be the same as if you had a big house.”
Besser is the owner of the developer Cascadia Builders, and he has been building modular houses for more than a decade.
He is building two modular houses in San Diego at the moment.
One is the “bespoke” design, which is a six room house, which Bessar says will cost $3.3 million.
The other, a “big house” for $6.3m.
Both houses will feature modularity.
Both of the houses Bessers are building have a common design element: a central balcony with two windows.
The balconies will have to be constructed to accommodate the number and spacing of modules in the house.
The balconies are also designed to allow a range of different sizes to be installed in a house, Bessr said.
There are four different sized modules in a standard home, and there are even two modules per floor, which will allow a house to be more spacious.
In addition, the modules are arranged in a way that can be reconfigured to suit the room’s size.
For example: the modules can be placed in the centre of the house, or they can be stacked in the corners of the rooms, and some modules will be arranged in the middle of the room, with others arranged in between the modules.
“It will be modular, and modularity will be really important to this kind of house because you will not need to buy a new wall, because all the modules will fit into the wall,” Bessher said.
He added that modularity can also allow for a house that is built more easily.
“When you look at houses that are built with a modular structure, they’re not very durable,” he explained.
“And you have to get into that, to build this house.”
The modular homes will be built by the end of this year in San Jose and Orange County, but Besserman hopes that many more will be constructed in the
